Foods & Nutrition 1-2

Year Course: Open to grades 9-12

UC/CSU approved a--g requirements  Nutrition counts as a G requirement. Foods and Nutrition also meets district CTE graduation requirements.


Nutrition 1-2 is a one year course in nutrition education. The course allows students to experience food preparation techniques while exploring nutrition basics, food safety and sanitation, meal planning and analysis, and consumer economics. Food preparation topics include baking quick breads, yeast breads, pies, and cookies and cooking grains, vegetables, fruits, cheese, meat and poultry.



Culinary Arts 1- 2

Year Course; Prerequisite: Nutrition 1-2, or instructor's approval: Open to grades 10-12. Culinary Arts meets the district CTE graduation requirements.


This course goes beyond the basics. It emphasizes new and exciting foods, interesting seasonings, and advanced cooking skills. Students work with the equipment and techniques necessary to prepare gourmet meals.Second semester  is designed to acquaint students with other countries and their traditions through the study, preparation and serving of foods common to those countries. The students will plan, prepare and serve festive meals from different cultures.
