Services for students with moderate/severe disabilities are provided in conjunction with the San Mateo County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). The continuum of special education services is described below.

A speech and language therapist is available on each campus to provide speech and language therapy for students who need no special education service other than speech and language therapy and for students in the special education programs who also need speech and language therapy.

Additionally, there are four special day classes for students with severe disorders of language (Aragon, Hillsdale, Capuchino and Burlingame). Two special day classes) for the mentally retarded (Mills and Hillsdale High Schools) serve students throughout the district. Two programs for seriously emotional disturbed students are available, one at Hillsdale High School and one at the Therapeutic Day Class at Peninsula High School. The District also operates a program for the hearing impaired at Capuchino High School.
